The La Nina cycle of 2011 buried most mountain ranges of North America in more snow than most had seen in over a decade. Else where connoisseur of powder were left with the dregs of the North American bounty. While many mountain residents of the Alps were on the kick of turning lemons to lemonade, Xavier de le Rue seized an opportunity unapparent to almost no one else. A low snow year can mean less avalanche hazard, and that alone can open some very big windows in the Alps. Xavier has been know for his big mountain riding prowess (winning the Award for Best Line at the Cold Smoke Awards in 2010), and the lack of ideal conditions in the Alps lead him stepping even further outside the box. Xavier and friends take speed and style to the mountaineering arena, the result is nothing shy of astounding.
In search of better conditions the Timeline crew heads to Alaska. After weeks of down time, and nearly getting skunked on and entire AK trip, Xavier and Mathieu Crepel, manage to sneak in a well deserved and spectacular four day session in Haines with SEBA Heli.
The exposure alone viewers experience in this film, is enough to keep butts numb and at the very edge of their seats. The speed and aggressive riding by de le Rue takes takes snowboarding to the next level. De la Rue’s reserved and honest dialogue through out the film makes him human, and leaves us wondering what will be next if this what Timeline film comes up with on a less than stacked winter. Hang on tight, and make sure your eyes stay in their sockets.
